REY MONTANO TAKES 3RD RDV CHARITY GOLF

Avid golfer Rey Montano from Appin, New South Wales and member of Lakeside Golf Club won the 3rd RDV Charity Golf Cup held at Fox Hills Golf Club on Sunday, December 27, 2020, to celebrate the 77th birthday of this writer. He scored 42 points under the stableford system of scoring using his AGU handicap of 12 and winning by count back. He was awarded with annual trophy plus $150 cash and the privilege to engrave his name in the monumental perpetual trophy. “(Am) happy to have a good game and win the Charity cup. A great opportunity to socialize and catch up with other Filipino golfers” said an ecstatic Rey.

Division winners with their scores and handicaps used were: Janel Diaz (41/16 CB) for Division A and Jun Gonzales (38/29) for Division B. These Division winners were awarded with $100 cash prize for their fantastic efforts.

Division runners up with their scores and handicaps used were: Bernard Bravo (40/19) for Division A and Oscar Canda (36/24) for Division B. These runners up winners were awarded with $50 cash prize for their best efforts.

Lady winner was Laura Marquinez with gross score of 100 strokes and net 29 points using her social handicap of 21 with Pogi Social golf club. She was awarded with $50 cash prize.

Novelty hole winners for Divisions A & B on all par 3 holes were awarded $20 each as follows: Hole 3 Ray Rodriguez for A and Rene de Leon for B; Hole 5 Rey Montano for A & Willie Tan for B; Hole 11 Rommel Gaerlan for B only; Hole 15 Romeo Morales for A and Bert Castro for B and Hole 17 Lorenzo Aquino for A and Rommel Gaerlan for B.

This writer in his welcome remarks thanked all the golfers for their support to the 3rd RDV Charity cup to raise funds for our kababayans  in the Philippines affected by typhoon and floods. Special mentioned to all the hole sponsors and to Ed Montero for donating the annual trophy on top of sponsoring two holes. He also thanked Vangie Leones for painstakingly organising the event assisted by his loving husband, Bobby.

On her part, the organizer Vangie Leones thanked all the 71 golfers coming from different social golf clubs who played as well as the sponsors. She finally congratulated the winners, announced that this will now be an annual event and invited everyone to come back again next year.

After the awarding, this writer presented an envelope containing $1000 to Vangie Leones, Director of the Philippine Community Council of NSW for inclusion in the funds to be remitted to PADER Projects in the Philippines.  Subsequently, and amount of $300 donated by Albert Dionisio (Jokers founding President) but unclaimed as the winner was not from Jokers Social Golf club, was added to this amount.
