Romulo Café launches catering and events service

By Gina McAdam
March 5, 2018

Designed for both formal and informal events, from weddings, birthday parties, hen nights and anniversaries to private and company lunches, receptions, cocktail parties, dinners, festivals and exhibitions, Romulo Café’s Kensington Kitchen is the next stage in the evolution of a business that in two years has managed to put fine Filipino cuisine on London’s culinary map.

Romulo Café’s Kensington Kitchen offers both a straightforward delivery and fully-staffed on-site catering service. Depending on the occasion and budget, clients can order any number of ‘Pinoy Platters’, good for 10-12 people. Variations include ‘Street Party Classics’ (pork belly barbecue, fish balls, chicken wings inasal, beef salpicao), ‘Home Hearty Meals’ (beef ribs adobo Romulo-style, Bobby’s beef kaldereta, Papa’s bistek Tagalog and more), ‘Fiesta Noodles’ (pancit canton guisado, pansit palabok), and Vegetables and Rice dishes (pakbet bagnet, taro laing, among others).

For quick and tasty, convenient grab and go meals – perfect for festivals and exhibitions -- Romulo Cafe’s Kensington Kitchen can churn out individual ‘Boxed Meals’ offering everything from noodle dishes to ‘Hearty Meaty Meal Classics’ and Vegetarian choices. A range of ‘Pinoy Fun Food’ is ideal for cocktail parties and receptions: pandesal sliders (with assorted meat and vegetable fillings), barbecued meats on skewers, lumpia (spring rolls), empanada (Spanish-style stuffed pastry) and the show-stopping ‘Sandie’s Sisig Wrap’. The service also includes a bakery and dessert delivery offering, which boasts Ube (purple yam) cheesecake, the iconic sans rival, and the best-selling pandesal, or Filipino bread rolls.

Rowena Romulo, owner of Romulo Café London, said, ‘For the past two years, Romulo Café has been invited to cater for numerous events in different locations, including private homes, a tennis club, London Excel and even Westfield London.

‘We’ve loved the opportunity these events have given us to promote Filipino cuisine to a wider audience, because some of those attending these events had never tried Filipino food before. With Romulo Café’s Kensington Kitchen, we’re committed to delivering the highest quality Filipino food, using British produce and seasonal ingredients as much as possible.

And of course, there is all the pride and grace behind the tradition of Filipino hospitality that forms a huge part of our service.’ View Romulo Café’s Kensington Kitchen menu here:

Romulo Café was launched in March 2016 by Rowena Romulo, a former senior

international banker (JP Morgan and Citi) and Chris Joseph. It is the first international outpost of Romulo Café in Manila.

Romulo Café, like its sibling restaurants in Manila, is a tribute to General Carlos P. Romulo, the great Filipino global statesman. Hence the walls are lined with his photographs and memorabilia, and the interiors have been named to honour stages in is life: the General’s Bar, the Ambassador’s Lounge, the Diplomat’s Dining Room and downstairs, the UN Corridor, and the CPR Library (a homage to his journalism career for which he won the Pulitzer Prize). The menu of Romulo Café consists largely of heirloom Romulo recipes, as curated by Rowena’s grandmother, Virginia Llamas, and her children.

Romulo Café was voted Most Loved Restaurant in Kensington in the 2016 Time Out Love London Awards. It is the first Filipino restaurant to enter the UK Tatler Restaurant Guide (2018).

    Julia Carreon-Lagoc

My daughter Randy Raissa Lagoc-Dingus turns 55 on March 11, 2018. I have no better idea of a birthday gift than to reminisce and share an aspect in a young woman’s life that happened 25 years ago — an incident that showed innate confidence, courage, conviction. And most importantly, compassion in the doctor-to-be. Read on:...
