The biggest Philippine Flag in the Southern Hemisphere is flying high to commemorate the  119th Anniversary of the Declaration of Philippine Independence and the Philippine -Australia Friendship Day,which were celebrated with a flag raising ceremony as The first Declaration of Independence Flag Raising Ceremony of about twenty in the State of NSW was held on June 3 2017 at the Evans Bridge Kelso under a  very bright sunny  and blue  Winter sky.

A large crowd attended from the Central West and Sydney and far wide. We felt immensely proud as the flag was raised majestically up the huge flagpole in Berry Park by The Philippines Consul General and our  Bathurst Mayor  under the expert guidance of Bathurst Lions Club. It was preceded by the Australian Flag. The Blessing and Prayer were provided by Pastor Aristotle Domingo Roberto, Minister and Director of Glocal of the Mission Church.

The event moved to the Parish Hall of the Catholic Cathedral of St Michael and St John to receive a beautiful Filipino lunch accompanied by a whole roast pig or lechon kindly donated by Geneviva Evelyn manager of the Realistic Training Options, and a celebration cake donated by Marie Mabaquiao from Lithgow.

Entertainment was proudly provided by Philippine Language & Cultural Association of Australia headed by Doctora Alexis Leones. The success of the event owes a great deal to the support of: The Bathurst Lions Club and their members and the  Bathurst Regional Council, led by our Mayor, Cr Graeme Hanger, The Hon Anne Jalando-on Louis of the Philippine Consulate Sydney.
