The Australia Philippines Services League will hold its annual flag raising rites 11 a.m. Saturday 10 June at The Village Green, Bowman Hall grounds, Campbell Street, Blacktown, marking 119 years of Philippine independence.

Established in 2004, the APSL comprises veterans of various areas of conflict, former service personnel of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Australian Defence Forces, and descendants of war veterans.

Blacktown City Council has been supporting the APSL-initiated free entry flag raising rites since 2004 and considers it part of Council activities.

Filipinos comprise the largest ethnic group in the Blacktown area, with four Filipino Australians having been elected to seats in the Blacktown City Council.

In the evening, the APSL will host friends, guests and supporters at its traditional Philippine Independence Day dinner-dance at the Rooty Hill RSL Club, Sherbrooke St., Rooty Hill.

More so when the day falls on Ash Wednesday.
