Pinoy community leaders attend Tamil Sydney Chitirai Festival

Rosehill Racecourse in Parramatta was transformed into a very colourful and vibrant place for the annual celebration of Sydney Chitirai Festival on the 7th of May 2017.

A unique festival loved by the Sydney Tamil community for its folk flavour and brings memories back home, this year’s festival was again organised by the Tamil Arts and Culture Association Inc. (TACA).  This very festive event is a good platform for bringing together Tamilians traversing geographical boundaries including India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Singapore, South Africa, Mauritius and other parts of the world. Spectacular entertainment by very talented Tamil artists showcased their traditional dances and songs, to the delight to the guests.

Among the special guest speakers were the Hon Ray Williams MP, State Minister for Multiculturalism and the Hon Geoff Lee MP, Parliamentary Secretary for Multiculturalism. Other state MPs and local government officials representing the major political parties and local including business and community leaders were in attendance.

Deputy Chair Jack Passaris and Board members Dr Cen Amores and Fiona Passaris represented the Ethnic Communities Council of NSW. Meanwhile, Ruben Amores, Immediate Past President of the Alliance of Philippine Community Organisations Inc (APCO), Founding Chair of the Auburn Small Community Organisation Network Inc ( ASCON) and Kapit-bahayan Cooperative Ltd (KCL), respectively also attended the event.
