APSL joins ANZAC Day march in Sydney

A bright sunny day greeted Australia Philippines Services League (APSL) members as they marched in Sydney on Anzac Day, commemorating the first Allied landings that took place on the Gallipoli peninsula on 25 April 1915.

About 30 former Philippine military service personnel, Australian military reservists and descendants of Filipino World War II veterans joined the march as it wound through main streets in Sydney’s central business district and paying their respects while passing the Australian War Memorial at Hyde Park.

Supreme Commander Chris Pilao led the APSL contingent with Mike Onate serving as troop commander, Glenn and Mark Maglalang as flag bearers, Maevonn and Michelle Manodon holding the APSL banner.

Anzac Day, a national day of remembrance in Australia, honours all the men and women who have participated in wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations around the world, the Anzacs in particular.

‘Anzacs’ comprise the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps who fought at Gallipoli in Turkey during World War I.

The Anzac Centenary from 2014 to 2018 is being observed in many ways in Australia to commemorate the country’s involvement in WWI.

APSL members have been marching shoulder-to-shoulder with Allied troops on Anzac Day since 2005
