The Thorncliffe Neighbourhood Office (TNO) in East York, Toronto has something to be proud of this year. The non- profit organization has celebrated its 30th anniversary of serving the community of newcomers and immigrants, on August  8, 2015. One of the major events of TNO was the dinner dance fund raising event to support its programs and projects intended for the vulnerable sector of the community.

Some of the special guests from the Filipino community include:  Tony A. San Juan, the former President of the Philippine Teachers Association of Canada (PTAC), and the winner of the Canadian Multicultural Council – Asians in Ontario (CMCA-O) Poster Hero for Education for 2015 Award, Judith Gonzales, Market Manager of  Pinoy Radio & President of Fil-Core Support Group, Vilma Pagaduan, Producer & Host of the TV Program, Eto Tayong Mga Caregiver, Conrad Belisario, Servant Leader of Couples for Christ – Foundation for Family & Life (CFC-FFL), Fred Chinagan Tomas, Founder of Highlanders Worldwide & Friends, Lito Puno, President of Filipino–Canadian Friendship Organization, and Susan S.J. Llanera, President of Camarines Norte Association of Canada-Ontario (CNAC-O), who was also a recipient of a TNO Volunteer Award.

The memorable event was held in the Greek Orthodox of St. Demetrios Church Hall, located on Thorncliffe Park Drive with 350 people in attendance and proudly, was completely filled–up by 99 % Filipinos. The gathering showed the strength of the Filipinos, the brotherhood and sisterhood values that everyone can be proud of.

Alberto Rodil, the Elder Person Coordinator of this event representing TNO, was truly grateful for the cooperation shown by everyone especially the volunteers who tirelessly shared their resources, time, and effort in marking another historic milestone in East York, Toronto. (tsj/ssjl)
