I am impressed with Munting Nayon, and the articles it publishes. Manny Asuncion's prolific writing comes from the heart. He brings a feel for events to the reader, and is an encouragement to the Filipino community nationally, and I think, internationally.

I know Manny personally, and know that he is indeed proud of his Filipino heritage, history and culture. Congratulations Eddie Flores and Orquidia Valenzuela for your publication

A LETTER OF THANKS ..On (Eddie Flores) Munting Nayon Magazine (muntingnayon.com ) coverage / Posting (Relief Operations / Fundraisings ) for the Victims of Super Typhoon Yolanda

    By Michael A. Apattad
    Senior Emigrant Services Officer (CFO)

    November 28, 2013

To our dear friends and partners:
(Mr. Eddie Flores, Ms. Nitnit and Ms. Charito, et. al)

We, at the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) and Secretary Imelda Nicolas, are very happy to hear the efforts of the Filipino diaspora for the benefit of the victims of Typhoon Yolanda.

We are pleased to inform you that the CFO is still actively implementing the Lingkod sa Kapwa Pilipino Program (LINKAPIL) as a means for overseas Filipinos to provide assistance to the Philippines. This program has been in place since 1990 when Mt. Pinatubo first erupted and devastated many parts of the country.

It may interest you to know that we implement projects sponsored by overseas Filipinos directly to beneficiaries in the grassroots. After gathering modest funds from overseas Filipino communities and individuals, we were able to deploy several teams this month to personally distribute relief items to victims of typhoon Yolanda (international name: Haiyan). A week after the typhoon struck, CFO was able to send a team to Palo and Pastrana, Leyte who had to go through Sorsogon and cross the sea from Bicol to Samar. At the moment, we have two teams distributing aid to families in Ormoc City and Bantayan Island, both badly hit by the disaster. More are planned depending on the assistance that would still come in, however, we are also now looking helping in the rehabilitation efforts of the affected areas.

As the relief efforts of the national government along with selfless local and international non-government organizations have only a short-term response to the immediate needs of our devastated kababayan in the Visayas region, the Philippine national government through President President Benigno S. Aquino III has formed a task group composed of his Cabinet members to ensure a fast-tracked transition to full-scale rehabilitation and rebuilding of areas hit by super-typhoon Yolanda.
According to Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr., the task group will be under the supervision of Cabinet Secretary Jose Rene Almendras, with Energy Secretary Carlos Jericho Petilla designated as task group coordinator and Economic Planning Secretary Arsenio Balisacan as planning coordinator. The task group’s priorities composed of shelter and reconstruction; power restoration; livelihood and employment, resettlement and psycho-social care; environmental protection; and resource generation and allocation.
The CFO is with this full scale-rehabilitation plans as we are still accepting in-kind or cash donations in view of the need of many Filipino communities. For material donations, these can be sent to Citigold Center, 1345 Quirino Ave. corner South Superhighway, Paco, Manila 1007. Cash donations may be sent via bank deposit or Visa payment through our website www.cfo-linkapil.org.ph. The same website also contains the bank account details where to send the donation.

We are also coordinating with the Office of the President and the Department of Budget and Management to include LINKAPIL donations from overseas Filipino communities, no matter how big or small, in the government portal they have put up in a bid for transparency in the use of donations: http://www.gov.ph/faith/. As you may have known, FAiTH is an online portal of information on calamity aid and assistance—both in cash and in kind—received by the Philippines from other countries, multilateral organizations, and also those sent through Philippine embassies abroad. This shows comprehensive information on humanitarian aid donated to the Philippine government. If the donations are coursed through government agencies—specifically the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the Office of Civil Defense of the Department of National Defense (DND)—the portal will likewise show users how the funds were spent.

Tom Tañada's Concert last June 24, 2011 gave Alaskans an evening to remember! His diverse genres was enjoyed by his audience. This was his 3rd concert in Anchorage and a request from other cities of this state would bring him back for the 4th time. Alaskans especially of Filipino heritage enjoyed the regional folk music the best, although his classical and contemporary ones were such a pleasure to listen. Salamat Tom! Hasta la vista!

Im glad that when I was browsing for Peter Paul de la Cruz, a long lost friend and co-employee back then in Davao, I saw him in your papers. I kind of know that he's in Canada but don't know exactly where I could contact him. I'm sure he will be delighted to know that Im just around and willfully near (10 Broadlyn Court,Bardonia, New York 10954).I understand your newsmag is based in the Netherland and you picked up a news about him. We shared the same passion : writing. I have just been off from my corporate job in the Philippines and finding out how it takes to be retired. I will appreciate it very much if you can help me get in touch with him. Right now,you have just played an important medium to me. Maraming salamat po !

    Mr. Flores,

I got an email from a friend here in Florida, US containing one of your edition and I was so fascinated on the overall dynamics of your communication vehicle which simply interconnect all pinoys from all over the world. This is brilliant and awesome. May this conduit through the cyberspace be OUR LINK to our kapwa pilipino who left our native country with one communality...being one and united as pilipinos regardless where we and our families are now.

Mr. Flores, please include me in your list of recipients of the upcoming issues. In central Florida there are hundred of pinoys who have retired here and perhaps we can contribute "stories" of our lives that will inspire viewers abroad as well as in the Philippines.

I live with my Carina, 2 grown up children and 2 grandkids at Wildwood, Florida.

We relocated from Pennsylvania 2 years ago and love the life style and weather here in FL as it is just like in the Philippines.

    Glad we found your link.

    Dear Mr. Flores,
I have often visited Munting Nayon. I do so when I feel nostalgic about life as a Filipino and as one now living abroad. In viewing this current edition I felt compelled to write to you to seek your help in a campaign we are conducting in Canada to vote a Filipino-Canadian among the Top 25 Canadian Immigrants of 2010. You and MNNM are greatly influential in advancing valid causes of Filipinos abroad. You make us feel "at home" in the world Rizal described as one without borders. If you'd be so kind to convey my appeal to your multitude of readers, I would be truly grateful. Here is my appeal:

Please help vote for a Filipino as 1 of the Top 25 Canadian Immigrants of 2010

    Dear Friends and Kababayan,

Ako po si Forte Gerardo, a senior, self-employed immigrant entrepreneur na Filipino at proud Canadian citizen living in Aurora, Ontario doing small business international trading for more than 30 years.
I wish to share with you my delight and pride in being named as a finalist in the Canadian Immigrant magazine contest to select the Top 25 Canadian Immigrants of 2010. It is a “people’s choice award”; anyone with an e-mail address and access to the Internet can vote wherever in Canada and in the world you may live.
In the October 2009 issue, Canadian Immigrant told my story in http://www.canadianimmigrant.ca/immigrantstories/career/article/5327 - that one with strong determination and faith can create a fulfilling job of productive global trading in Canada even in difficult conditions.
Please also visit http://www.filinter.net for reviews on the usefulness of my guidebook "Ka-intindi'han [Mutual Understanding] Canadians' Practical Guide Dealing with Today's Global Filipinos in Business, @ Work, @ Home & in the Communities.” Reply to this email and I will gladly send a digital excerpt for your reading.

Thank you for sending the Newsletter. I'm so pleased of reading what's happening around the world especially the Filipino Community. I am a published author and my first book "The Messages" miscellaneous prose and poetry was published in Dec. 2006. At the moment I am waiting the editing of my second book "The Messages of My Dreams" which is my Dream Diary[prophecies, warnings and reminders]to finish as it was delayed. I managed to write my third book while waiting the editing of my second book. The editing and proofreading of my third book "The Messages, Conversation With God Against Satan" my diary in seven days [miscellaneous prose and poetry]was finished last week and I forwarded the manuscript to the publisher last friday. They replied that I have to wait within 2 weeks for them to review then I will know whether they will publish or not. I trust everything to God, His Will be done.

Is it possible to share/contribute my writing in your Newletter? I have contributed to some Filipino News/magazines here in UK.

To Munting Nayon and fellow kababayans,

Am so proud of you cause in your busy life in the netherlands, you really find time to connect us, the filipino people around the globe and advocates of goodwill by circulating very good , positive , inspiring, encouraging , up to date and heart -warming news about the filipinos and the Philippines. this way, Our country image is uplifted and not only those disappointing and more often "nakakasirang" balita about our country are being being by other groups. what you're doing is a very noble act cause i beleive, kung tayo na Pilipino, di magmalaki sa sariling atin, sino pa ang mag-aangat sa atin at sa ating bayan. Isang lahi lang tayo at iisa ang ating bansa.

More power and god bless all of .you

Hello there Mr. Eddie Flores of Munting Nayon Publication online, Netherlands.
I read a comments of Mr. John Van Laar of Ontario, Ca.who is married to Ms. Corazon of the Philippines.
May this note reach his attention because I needed assistance to any Rotarian for the ongoing Water and Sanitation project for the entire Barangay/community in the Philippines.
This project is funded by the Rotary Club International and USAID with the amount of Php. pesos 100,000,000.00.
I would appreciate that the community I visited will be a beneficiary of the this project, for their source of drinking water is not safe since it is taken along riverbank and potentially endangering lives for possible bacterial/varial contamination, especially during rainy season with frequent flooding.
I pray that beside's the Rotary International Water and Sanitation project we may share bountiful blessings we are having right now by sponsoring some of this children who graduated from high school to take, technical/vocational and skilled training for them to enter the workforce already equipped and tooled.
Training in: culinary; namely, cooking, baking and pastry making; sommelier/waitering and housekeeping; butchers, welders and mechanics and electricians and etc short term but effective and useful for this poor children in the hinterlands.
God bless, Mr. Eddie Flores and for Mr. John van Laar if by opportunity you may come accross on this message in behalf of the farming community in; New Ilo-ilo, Kidapukan, Pangantukan, Bukidnon, Mindanao, Southern Philippines.
    Thanks

Good day and God bless sa lahat ng MN staff d'yan sa Holland.

I am sharing to you something that I don't even know will touch the heart of those responsible for the neglect of providing this people their basic needs..

Hard working, yes they are but; quote and quote; Dona Consuelo Zobel Alger message," I would like to renew Hope for those who have it; and to those who never had it."

I was there and witness the circumstances that hinder them to do more for their endeavor.

January 16 to 19, 2009 I was in the place for a purpose; medical and spiritual outreach, I am back here in Canada reason for exploring the avenue of assisting this community. dear editor,

    Greeting from Houston Texas.

I'm really amazed that you have a vibrant Filipino community in northern Europe. When my wife and I took a Rhine river cruise three years ago, and we were going through these countries, I was wondering if I could meet Filipinos. All the while, you are all there. It was just a matter of good fortune to get me bumping upon any one of you. hehhhehhe

I enjoyed immensely reading the articles, including from the archives.

Thank you for sharing with me your life in the land of the Vikings.

is your magazine also printed or just in the website? mine is actually just my own effort and published under the ausdpices of the polo-owwa. it is mainly for the filipinos in tripoli who i hope will open up their eyes and minds to the ideal of being filipino. i dont know if am succeeding but am trying my best. incidentally am a nurse so i hardly know anything about writing either except keeping my grammar coherent.

can i possibly use the stories you sent me?

incidentally can you include an annnouncement that the chong hua hospital school of nursing graduates 1975 would like to celebrate their alumni homecoming jan 14-18 2010.
thank you so much. id highly appreciate.

Thank you for including me in your mailing list. I find your news magazine very informative and interesting, having been a migrant myself for some time in Europe.

I am interested to do a research work about Filipino migrants in Europe and I would like to know the possibilities of working with you or your group. The research would have something to do with action research on development issues. I hope we could partner with you or with groups affiliated with you on this regard.

Once again..Congratulations for accomplishing so much good for our kababayan and our Bayang Pilipinas!

We hope that this will start a correspondence among us and the possibility of working together.

I read with interest all the articles and marvel at how Filipinos are always at the forefront of doing great things in their "new" homes yet continue efforts to help their countrymen back home.

I am interested to offer the programs of our school and as a way of introduction, invite you to visit our website at www.saidi.edu.ph.
Should our programs be of interest, I am willing to contribute short articles, snippets of interest to our kababayans in the interest of continuing education and community efforts that you may be interested to collaborate in.

Will appreciate your feedback and hope to continue correspondence with you.

    Aloha Mr and Mrs Flores,

We have been exchanging emails for quite sometime now and it is nice to see your photo together. What you both are doing is wonderful. I went through all the photos and seeing them made me homesick of the Philippimes .

I am here in Hawaii simce October and visited my three daughters and their family. I am not sure if there is any Filipino organization here but there are several of us who gather together often. I am going home next week to the Philippines and I will tell my daughters and their friends to have an activity together and form an organization.

My daughter Eliza May Villanueva Shumwaywas voted Young Mother of the year of 2005 and Represented the State of Hawaii, and a close friend Bennette Misalucha Evangelita was voted Mother of the Year a couple of years back represented Hawaii to the America Mothers Inc. Selection was based on their achievements as a homemaker, personal integrity, and community service.

I will ask my daughter to send some photos of such. Here in Laie, Hawaii Latter-Day Saints Filipinos come to Brigham Young University to get their Bachelor's degree as Scholars. Most of them go home to the Philippines and some get married while in school. Two of my daughters here are members of the Concert Choir of BYU-Hawaii.This Choir toured Korea and Japan ,and the Phils. But the Japan and Korea Tour was famous because they were allowed by the Japanese Religious group to sing in their temple,

Thank you for the work that you do --making us connected.

May the Lord bless you with good health, and Happy Valentine to you both.
